The Kenya Power & Lighting Company Limited (KPLC) decided to promote gender mainstreaming at the corporate level starting in 2008. A Gender Committee was created to conduct a survey to assess the sensitivity to gender issues by the organization. Based on the results, several initiatives were designed:
- Gender mainstreaming policy;
- Policy on sexual harassment and discrimination;
- Policy of equal opportunities;
- Strategic Plan for gender mainstreaming 2010-2015 and the Monitoring and Evaluation Framework;
- Awareness campaigns on corporate policies for staff.
