Water and Sanitation Program

In Peru, the Water and Sanitation Program (a multi-donor partnership administered by the World Bank) implemented the “small town pilot Project” project to promote gender-sensitive AyS governance in locations between 2,000 and 30,000 inhabitants. In detail:
- A public-private alliance was created with three actors such as the municipality, the private operator and a community supervisory committee. The committee represented a supervisory body for the service provided, whose members were elected through a transparent voting system. A municipal order established that the committee should have equal representation of women and men (50% and 50%).
- Separate consultations with men and women were also organized to detect different water use priorities and define usage rates.
