The Rural Energy Access project in Yemen on the basis of information collected through participatory community consultations included:
- Awareness campaigns on risks in the use of electricity for women and children (shock);
- Provision of credits to cover the initial connection cost for poor households headed by women;
- Creation of local organizations / cooperatives that are responsible for the operation and administration of the system (maintenance, collection of fees, etc.). Special attention was paid to the training of women so that they could participate in the decision-making processes of cooperative organizations.
